I have applied for an eTA. How much time will it take to be processed?

eTA applications are usually processed within 3 days, but in some cases it may take longer.

Do citizens of Rwanda, Uganda or other East African Community countries have to apply for an eTA?

Passport holders from the following EAC countries are exempted from applying to an eTA: Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.

Is a Somali citizen required to apply for an eTA?

All foreign visitors must apply for an eTA unless they are holders of valid Kenya Permanent Residence, Work Permits and Passes.

After arriving to Kenya I plan to visit a neighboring country and then return to Kenya for departure back home. Do I need to apply for a second eTA?

Your eTA is valid for a single entry into Kenya. However, there are some exceptions to this.

Your eTA remains valid for more than one entry if:

  • You visit one of the following EAC Partner States: Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda, AND;
  • You don't visit any other country, AND;
  • Your eTA has not expired (90 days from issuance

I have a diplomatic passport. Do I have to apply for an eTA?

Travellers who are members of the Diplomatic Missions and International Organisations accredited to Kenya are not required to complete an eTA.

Is Kenya now visa free?

There are no visa requirements for any traveller visiting Kenya. Travellers must complete their Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) prior to travel to Kenya. This can be submitted up to 90 days before travel.

How far ahead of my travel should I apply for an eTA?

Submissions for the eTA can be made up to 90 days prior to travel. Applications are usually processed within 3 days, but in some cases it may take longer. We recommend applying for your eTA 2 weeks prior to travel.

Can I apply for an eTA even before booking my journey?

No, the travel information is an obligatory section of the application process. Therefore, it is only possible to apply for the eTA after having booked your transport and accommodation.

What is the fee for the eTA?

The fee the eTA is USD 34.09 per traveller, which includes the cost of the eTA and bank and processing fees.

I have a valid eVisa, do I need to apply for an eTA?

If you have a valid eVISA issued by the Republic of Kenya or a valid East African Tourist Visa, you will not be required to complete an eTA. Children need an eTA, as they do not appear on the eVisa.

Does the eTA allow for multiple entries to Kenya?

Your eTA is valid for a single entry into Kenya. However, there are some exceptions to this.

I have applied for an eTA. Do I have to apply for an eVISA as well?

No. If you have a valid eTA, you are not required to have an eVISA.

I'm travelling in six weeks, when should I apply for the eTA?

Submissions for the eTA can be made up to 90 days prior to travel. Applications are usually processed within 3 days, but in some cases it may take longer. We recommend applying for your eTA 2 weeks prior to travel.

I am travelling to Kenya by road. What option should I choose when filling my trip information?

During the application process, you will see an option for your arrival mode. Please select "Arriving by Land".

I am an airline crew, do I have to apply for an eTA?

Crew members with a valid GENDEC or flight manifest for their trip are not required to submit an eTA.

I heard there was a premium service for expedited pricing - where can I find it?

Currently, there is no premium service for expedited processing. Please apply for a standard eTA application.

The continue button is greyed out and disabled and I cannot proceed with my application, what should I do?

If you cannot proceed in your application, please ensure all required items in the application have been completed. The missing fields will be higlhlighted to indicate they need to be completed. If you continue to have issues, please contact our support team. Switch off the automatic translation, the system does not always work when you have the website translated automatically.

I will transit through Kenya for catching another flight, do I need to apply for an eTA?

Passengers arriving by air who are transiting in Kenya are not required to do an eTA, provided they are not leaving airport.

Do I have to apply for an eTA if I am a foreign citizen but my spouse is Kenyan?

Yes. All foreign visitors must apply for an eTA unless they are holders of valid Kenya Permanent Residence, Work Permits and Passes.

Do I have to apply for an eTA if I am arriving by boat or ship to a seaport?

An eTA is required for all visitors arriving to Kenya by sea.

We are travelling as a couple/group. Is one eTA enough for all of us?

An eTA is required for each passenger when travelling as a group. When starting your application, select Apply as a Group.

I can’t find my flight in the application platform. How can I continue?

If you cannot find your flight number, please select "Charter or Other Airline" and enter the last four (4) digits of the flight number.

Do I have to submit a yellow fever certificate when applying for an eTA?

A yellow fever certificate is currently not required to submit your eTA application.

What is the permitted duration of stay in Kenya with an eTA?

A valid eTA is only permission to travel to Kenya, it does not guarantee entry. Immigration Officials at the port of entry have final authority to permit or deny admission.
