Africa Day 2024 - New perspectives for economic cooperation
The African continent, is increasingly capturing the attention of companies around the world, and the region also offers opportunities for German companies due to its largely youthful population with its and great economic potential. This was also made evident at the Africa Day held on at the Siegen Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
Ambassador Stella Mokaya Orina, Ambassador of the Republic of Kenya, explained by way of example that Kenya is actively working to make investments more attractive for foreign companies. Amb. Orina emphasized that Germany is number 3 trading partner of Kenya. Trade relations favour Germany and the Kenyan ambassador was in Siegen creating more awareness about Kenya, in order to strengthen economic ties and attract more FDI. She elaborated the incentives in place in Kenya's free market economy and ease of doing business, as well as the good level of financial literacy in the business ecosystem. She pointed out sectors to invest in such as in renewable energy, agriculture, infrastructure, manufacturing, blue economy, waste management and tourism.
Kenya’ ambassador (Amb. Stella Mokaya Orina, Ambasaddor from Cameroon, Cameroon (Amb. Ndocki Victor), Senegal (Amb. Jean-Marc Pisani) and South Africa (Amb. Stone Sizani), took the opportunity to demonstrate the prospects and potential of the African market. The exchange showed in essence that "win-win situations" can arise through targeted investments on the African continent.
INVITATION TO THE 41ST INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF SCIENCE PARKS AND AREAS OF INNOVATION (IASP) WORLD CONFERENCE IN NAIROBI FROM 24TH TO 27TH SEPTEMBER, 2024
This is to inform that the Ministry of Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy through Konza Technopolis Development Authority will be hosting the 41st International Association of Science Parks (IASP) and areas of innovation World Conference under the theme, ‘Demographics, Entrepreneurship and Technology: Defining the frontiers of future economies’.
The World Conference will be held in Nairobi from 24th to 27th September, 2024 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC). This marks the return of the World Conference to Africa since 2008.
President Ruto Visit to Germany
Kenya’s President Ruto reaffirmed the strong and fruitful ties between Kenya and Germany. He expressed satisfaction with the ongoing collaboration, particularly in the area of green hydrogen, and a promising future in technology where both countries have found common ground.
During the meeting, both leaders witnessed the signing of a comprehensive Mobility and Migration Agreement by Kenya’s Foreign Minister, Musalia Mudavadi, Germany’s Federal Minister of the Interior, Nancy Faeser, and Minister of State of the Federal Foreign Office, Katja Keul. The agreement is set to open job opportunities for Kenyans, particularly skilled workers and young people, who will be able to pursue vocational training in Germany.
The Kenya Ambassador to Germany, Stella Mokaya Orina, also reaffirmed that the partnership between the two countries is of great value to both nations as it fosters international cooperation.

Kenyans in Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic join their compatriots in Kenya in a warm celebration of democracy and a peaceful transition in their beloved country.
His Excellency Hon. Dr. William Samoei Ruto, EGH, has been sworn into office as the Fifth President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of Kenya Defence Forces, for a five-year term beginning Tuesday, 13th September, 2022. During the same occasion, His Excellency Hon. Rigathi Gachagua has also been sworn in the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya.
His Excellency Hon. Dr. William Samoei Ruto, EGH, was elected in a free and fair contest, following the General Elections held on 9th August, 2022.
Kenya’s robust democratic credentials were again emphatically re-affirmed.
The vital institutions of a democratic state including an independent Judiciary continue to secure Kenya’s unwavering commitment to the rule of law.
His Excellency the President was first elected Member of Parliament for Eldoret North Constituency from 1997 to 2007. He served as Minister for Home Affairs from August to December, 2002. He was re-elected in 2007 for another 5-year term where he served as a Minister for Agriculture and Minister for High Education. from 2008 to 2010. His Excellency Hon. Dr. William Samoei Ruto also served two terms as the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Botany and Zoology as well as a Master’s degree and Doctor of Philosophy degree in Plant Ecology.
As we celebrate the triumph of democracy and a peaceful transition in our beloved country, we also recognize the incredible support that he has received from his wife Mama Rachel Ruto and family.

KENYA BEGINS TENURE AS NON -PERMANENT MEMBER AT THE UNITED NATIONS SECURITY COUNCIL FOR THE PERIOD 2021-2022
on 1st January 2020, Kenya took up tenure as a non-permanent member at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2021-2022 term. The African Union endorsed Kenya as Africa's Candidate for the non-permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council for the 2021-2022 term by securing over two thirds of the African Union membership vote.
Kenya is a safe pair of hands that can be trusted to champion Africa's peace and security Agenda in the UNSC as well as adhere to principles and dictates of the UN Charter in building peaceful, stable and prosperous global order. FRUIT LOGISTICA 2020
Fruit Logistica horticultural fair was held at Messe Berlin from 5th to 7th February 2020. The Kenyan delegation consisted of twenty-seven horticultural companies from Kenya under the umbrella of the Horticultural Crop Directorate (HCD) of Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA) and EU-EAC Market Access Upgrade Programme (MARKUP) project, and ten women-owned companies sponsored by the SheTrades in the Commonwealth project.

STUDY TOUR TO GERMANY BY MEMBERS OF THE CONSTITUTIONAL IMPLEMENTATION OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE OF THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY OF THE REPUBLIC OF KENYA, 27TH OCTOBER TO 2ND NOVEMBER 2019
A select number of Members of Parliament from the Constitutional Implementation Oversight Committee of the National Assembly visited Germany for a study tour from 27th October to 2nd November 2019.
The delegation was led by Hon. Sarah Lekorere, MP. Others included: Hon. Peris Tobiko, MP, Hon. Raphael Wanjala, MP, Hon. Tom Oluoch, MP, and Hon. Omar Shurie, MP. The delegation was accompanied by Ms. Christine E. Odhiambo, Legal Counsel/Parliamentary Service Commission and Ms. June Khakasi, Third Secretary/Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Amb. GERMAN AFRICA AWARD 2019
Kenya's IT icon, Ms. Juliana Rotich won the GERMAN AFRICA AWARD 2019 during a ceremony held on 23rd October 2019 in Berlin, Germany. The Federal Chancellor, Dr. ANGELA MERKEL who was the chief guest, presented the award to Juliana during the ceremony attended by the diplomatic corps, Germany dignitaries and Kenya Embassy staff among others.The event was hosted by the German Africa Foundation with celebrated Kenyan musician, Eric Wainaina, performing during the function.
Juliana Rotich was recognized for her outstanding social and entrepreneurial commitment towards digital revolution in Africa and beyond. She is the co-founder of the Open Source Platform, Ushaidi, which has revolutionized worldwide flow of information during disasters and elections. Ms. Rotich is also co-founder of a technology company known as BRCK, which provides battery based internet access in areas without electricity.

VISIT TO GERMANY BY THE ANGLICAN DIOCESE OF NAIROBI
The Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Nairobi, the Rt. Rev. Joel Waweru led a delegation of Diocesan clergy and their spouses for a retreat to Germany from 11th to 15th October 2019.
The theme of the retreat was 'Tracing the reformation and the Anglican History'. Ms. Hellen Rosa Kagwanja, Second Counsellor and acting in charge at the Embassy, accompanied by Ms. Emma Malinda, the head of Consular Section, met with the delegation on 13th October 2019 at the Holiday Inn in Berlin.

BMW BERLIN MARATHON 2019
The 2019 BMW Berlin Marathon took place on 29th September 2019. Kenya's Sally Chepyego took third position in the women's category finishing at 02:21:06 behind Ethiopia's Ashete Bekere and Mare Dibaba who finished at 02:20:14 and 02:20:21 respectively.
In the men's category, Kenya's Jonathan Korir came fourth at 02:06:45, ahead of his compatriots, Felix Kandie at 02:08:07 (at position 5) and Abel Kipchumba at 02:09:39 (at position 10). Ethiopia took all the first three positions led by Kenenisa Bekele at 02:01:41.

LAUNCH OF E-PASSPORT ISSUANCE
On 19th July 2019, Amb. Magutt officially launched the issuance of e-passports at the Embassy. This followed a visit by a team from the Department of Immigration Services led by Mr. Abraham Mwaura, Deputy Director for Immigration Services. Mr. Mwaura's team worked closely with the Embassy team to complete laying down of all infrastructure necessary to process the e-passports. Kenya Nationals are welcome to apply for e-passports.

The World of Coffee Expo was held from 6th to 8th June 2019 at Messe Berlin Expo Centre. Representatives of the Coffee Directorate from the Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA) and the Coffee Subsector Implementation Committee (CSIC) participated in the fair. Kenya's Icon and Peace Laurent, Prof. Wangari Mathai honored in Germany
Prof. Wangari Mathai was honored in Berlin on where the Second International School, Berlin was named after her. Wangari Mathai International School was curved of the First International School named after South Africa's Peace Laurent, Nelson Mandela. Amb. Joseph Magutt, Kenya's Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany was the chief guest during the occasion. This was in recognition of her contribution to towards addressing climate change by restoration of forests through the Green Belt Movement which she founded.

STUDY TOUR BY MEMBERS OF THE PROCEDURE AND HOUSE RULES COMMITEE OF THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY OF KENYA TO THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY
Hon. Aden Duale, EGH, MP, the Leader of Majority in the National Assembly of the Republic of Kenya led a delegation of Kenyan Members of Parliament (MPs) for a study tour to Germany. The delegation comprising of Hon. Ruweida Obo, MP, Hon. Jessica Mbalu, MP, Hon. T.J. Kajwang, MP, Hon. David Bowen, MP, Hon. Samuel Gachobe, MP, arrived on Sunday, 17th March 2019.
The delegation is accompanied by Mr. Ronald Makokha, Legal Counsel and Mrs. Perpetual Muiga-Karanu, Clerk Assistant from the Parliamentary Service Commission.
The delegation started off their tour with a Courtesy Call on Amb. Magutt at the Chancery on 18th march 2019. On 19th March 2019, the delegation held fruitful discussions with Members of the German Parliament (Bundestag) from the Committee on Scrutiny of Elections, Immunity and the Rules of Procedure as well as the Committee on Petitions. The Committees were led by their respective Chairman i.e. Prof. Dr. Patrick Sensburg (CDU/CSU), MP, and Mr. Marian Wendt (CDU/CSU), MP. ITB 2019
The International Tourism Bourse (ITB) is the world's leading travel trade show and trendsetter of the global travel industry. ITB 2019 was held from 6th to 10th March 2019. The Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Tourism & Wildlife, Hon. Najib Balala led a delegation of 42 tour operator, hoteliers and country representatives from Kenya at ITB 2019.

KENYA REIGNS SUPREME AT THE 45TH BERLIN MARATHON
EMBASSY HOLDS OPEN CONSULTATIONS WITH KENYAN DIASPORA IN FRANKFURT
H.E. Mr. Joseph Magutt, led Embassy officials in holding open consultations with Kenyan Diaspora in Frankfurt. The consultations were held on 8th September 2018 on the sidelines of the 10th Anniversary Celebrations of Mkenya Ujerumani e.v. Mkenya Ujerumani e.v. is a registered community organization in Germany that disseminates information mainly targeted at the Kenyan diaspora through its website. The organization is one of the Embassy's key networks in its outreach activities to the Diaspora.
The Embassy took the opportunity to reach out to the diaspora regarding consular matters as well as investment opportunities back home.
To mark the 10th anniversary, Mkenya Ujerumani had also invited Kenyan diaspora to show case various products and services that they trade including crafts, clothing and beauty products.
BMZ OPEN DAY 2018
The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development's (BMZ) held its 2018 Open Day on 25th August 2018 in Berlin. The event took place at the BMZ offices along Stresemannstrasse.
The Open Day provided an opportunity for Diplomatic Missions and International Agencies to exhibit the projects and activities funded through the German Development Cooperation in different countries. Participants also had the opportunity to inform the German public about their countries' culture, trade and investment opportunities as well as tourism products.
The Embassy participated at the event by displaying information about development cooperation between Kenya and Germany under the Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. GIZ has been operating in Kenya since 1975. Areas of cooperation include: agriculture and rural development (focusing on food security and drought resilience), Youth employment and Techncial and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Development of Water and Sanitation sector, support for the Health sector and Development of renewable energies. The Mission also showcased Kenya as preferred tourist and investment destination.
TRAINING OPPORTUNITY FOR KENYANS
A reputable German institution intends to recruit some Kenyans for training in geriatric nursing.
Interested Kenyans living in Germany are encouraged to apply through the Embassy. Applicants should have a minimum of KCSE Certificate, German language proficiency level B2 and Kenyan identification document (passport and/or ID card). The age limit is 50 years.

On 24th July 2018, Amb. Magutt met with H.E. Dr. Wilhelm von Trott zu Solz, the Ambassador of the Sovereign Order of Malta to the Republic of Kenya. The meeting took place at the Chancery.
During the meeting, the two Ambassadors observed that Kenya and the Order of Malta cooperate in various areas of mutual interest. The Ambassadors reiterated the commitment of the two countries in furthering the bilateral relations.

Dr. Tecla Wanjala and Mr. James Shikwati paid a Courtesy Call on Amb. Magutt on 11th July 2018.
Dr. Wanjala is the Head of the Reconciliation and Healing Program of the Green String Network, Nairobi and an expert on Development Policy, Peace and Human Rights. Mr. Shikwati, is the Founder and Director, Inter Region Economic Network (IREN) and an expert on economic development in Africa.
The two Kenyans are currently serving as Fellows at the Robert Bosch Academy.The Embassy wishes them well during their stay in Germany.

Amb. Annett Guenther, Commissioner for Refugees and Migration issues at German's Federal Foreign Office paid a Courtesy Call on Amb. Magutt on 9th July 2018. The meeting took place at the Chancery.
The two Ambassadors noted that Kenya/Germany relations have taken an upward trajectory. It was observed that the two countries continue to cooperate in various sectors, such as Food Security, Health and Sanitation, Vocational Training among others. High level visits have also been witnessed. The two Ambassadors agreed to continue consulting on areas of mutual interest.
FEDERAL CHANCELLOR HOSTS A RECEPTION FOR MEMBERS OF THE DIPLOMATIC CORPS
Amb. Magutt joined other members of the Diplomatic Corps for a reception hosted by Angela Merkel, the Federal Chancellor on 6th July 2018 in Meseberg.
During the reception, the Federal Chancellor called on the International Community to continue working together and be willing to make compromises where necessary, for the good of the world.
Regarding Africa, the Chancellor informed that Germany will in October 2018 host another G20 Africa Conference. The conference will be aimed at exploring ways of implementing the " Compacts with Africa Initiative." The Chancellor noted that offering more support for private-sector investment, enterpreneurship and small companies would lead to more self sustaining growth in Africa. The Chancellor hailed the Africa Union's (AU) Agenda 2063 as a good basis for growth. The Chancellor noted that Germany will continue working with the international community to support peace and security programs in Africa.
GERMAN-AFRICA BUSINESS DAY
On 5th July 2018, Amb. Magutt joined other participants for the 5th German-Africa Business Day, held at the Ellington Hotel in Berlin. Mrs. Jane Kole, the Commercial Attache accompanied the Ambassador.
The Forum whose theme was "Engaging in a Smart Africa," was organized by the German Africa Business Association (Afrika-Verein der Deutschen Wirtschaft). Participants represented both public and private sectors from Africa and Germany. The African Union (AU) Commission was also represented by a delegation led by H.E. Mr. Albert Muchanga, the AU's Commissioner for Trade and Industry.
It is expected that the discussions held will lead to more interactions between Africa and Germany in the areas of trade and investments.

Her Excellency, Madame Beatrice Khamisa Wani Noah, the new Ambassador of South Sudan to the Federal Republic of Germany paid a Courtesy Call on Amb. Magutt on 4th July 2018 at the Chancery.
The two Ambassadors hailed the excellent bilateral relations that exist between Kenya and South Sudan. They undertook to work closely together at all Fora for the mutual benefit of their two countries.
KENYA AND GERMANY COOPERATION IN TECHNICAL AND VOCATIONAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING (TVET)
Kenya and Germany reaffirmed their commitment to enhance cooperation in the TVET sector. Special attention will be given to capacity development in research. This was agreed upon during a meeting between Dr. Kipkirui Lang'at, the Director-General/CEO of Kenya's Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority(TVETA) and representatives of German's Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) as well as those from the Federal Institute for Vocational Training (BIBB).
The meeting took place on 1st July 2018 at the BIBB offices in Bonn. Ms. Brigit Thomann, Head of the International Cooperation in Vocational, Education and Training Department led the BIBB team while Dr. Henk van Liempt, Head of Division, EU Education and International Cooperation led the BMBF team. Others in the delegation included, Ms. Berbera Hemkes, Mr. Ulrich Meinecke, Dr. Ralf Hermann and Ms. Inga Hennicke. Ms. Hellen Rosa Kagwanja, Second Counsellor, represented the Embassy.

KENYA REPRESENTED AT THE 2018 KENAKO AFRIKA FESTIVAL, BERLIN
The seventh (7th) Edition of KENAKO Afrika Festival kicked off on 7th June 2018 at Alexanderplatz, Berlin. It ends on 17th June 2018. Under the Sponsorship of the Mayor of Berlin, the event provides an opportunity for different African countries to show case their cultural heritage in terms of music, dance, sale of crafts, food, clothing, traditional jewellery and cosmetics. The Festival aims to promote fusion of various cultures and creation of new networks.
This year, two Kenyan enterprenuers namely: Mrs. Margaret Wairimu Schwarz and Ms. Matilda Warigia are participating at the Festival. Mrs. Schwarz is the proprietor of Upendo Afroshop located at Silbersteinstrasse, Berlin while Ms. Warigia runs her business known as the Maasai shop based in Mombasa, Kenya.

10TH EDITION OF THE RUN OF SPIRIT
Kenya's Paralympic Champion, Mr. Henry Wanyoike took part in the 10th Edition of Run of Spirit held on 21st May 2018 in Berlin. Mr. Wanyoike was accompanied by his personal Guide, Mr. Paul Kihumba and emerged fourth in the 10KM race. Mr. Wanyoike serves as a Goodwill Ambassador for Standard Chartered Seeing is Believing and Light for the World Austria.
The Run of Spirit is annual event organized by Evangelisches Johannesstift. It draws inspiration from the UN Disability Rights Convention which promotes equal participation of all people in society.

On 7th May 2018, Hon. Kareke Mbiuki and Hon. Hillary Kosgei, both members of the Parliamentary Committee on Environment and Natural Resources paid a Courtsey Call on the Embassy.
The MPs are in Germany to participate in the UN Climate Change Conference currently taking place in Bonn.
A KENYAN SCIENTIST, DR. ISAIAH ETEMO MUCHILWA, WINS AN AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING RESEARCH ACHIEVEMENT
A Kenyan Scientist, Dr. Isaiah Muchilwa was feted for excelling in a research project, titled, "Innovative Cereal drying and handling technology to combat aflatoxin contamination in Kenya's maize supplies - "Innostore." The project has high potential for commercial exploitation.
The Award Ceremony took place on 2nd May 2018, at the Federal Ministry of Education and Research in Berlin. It was presided over by Madam Anja Karliczek, German's Federal Minister for Education and Research. Dr. Muchilwa was among the first four African scientists to have won the prize, following the launch of the 1st German-Africa Innovation Incentive Award (GAIIA). Present during the award ceremony was H.E. Mr. Joseph Magutt, Kenya's Ambassador to Germany. The Ambassador congratulated Dr. Muchilwa for the achievement.
In her remarks, the Federal Minister noted that, the Award is part of German's strategy aimed at supporting science, research and development in Africa. The prize takes the form of project funding for joint German-African researchers. Other Scienctists awarded were from Uganda, Nigeria and Egypt. The African researchers will work with German partners.
Kenyan researchers are encouraged to be on the lookout for the 2nd Call for Proposals scheduled for Summer 2018.
12TH GERMAN-AFRICA ENERGY FORUM
H.E. Mr. Joseph Magutt participated at the 12th German-Africa Energy Forum, held from 24th to 25th April 2018, at the premises of Hamburg Chamber of Commerce in Hamburg City. The Forum was organized by Afrika-Verein under the theme, "Africa's Sustainable Energy Future."
The Forum provided an opportunity to develop strategic relationships, learn about innovations in the energy sector and have productive debates on how to further develop fruitful German-Africa relationships in the energy sector.
KENYAN STUDENTS ON AN EXCHANGE VISIT TO GERMANY
Kenyan students from Alliance Girls and Boys High Schools paid a Courtsey Call on the Embassy on 23rd April 2018. The students were led by their teachers, Mr. Peter Ayiro, Ms. Esther Wawire and Mr. Jonathan Mbithi. The students are on an exchange programme and are being hosted by students from Phoenix Gymnasium Wolfsburg-Vorsfelde (School) who accompanied them to the Embassy. The German students were led by their teacher, Ms. Christine Fingas.
The Embassy commended the exchange programme as a way of promoting cultural cooperation between Kenya and Germany.
VISIT TO GERMANY BY THE BUDGET AND APPROPRIATION COMMITTEE OF THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY OF THE REPUBLIC OF KENYA
A select number of Members of the Budget and Appropriation Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Kenya are currently visiting Germany on a bench marking tour.
The delegation arrived in Berlin on Sunday, 22nd April 2018, led by Hon. James Gichuki Mugambi, MP. Others in the delegation are, Hon. Millie Odhiambo, MP, Hon. Ruth Mwaniki, MP, Hon. Danson Mwakuwoma, MP, Hon. Bernard Shinali, MP and Hon. Qalicha Wario, MP. Accompanying the Members of Parliament (MPs), are Mr. Danson Kachumbo and Mr. Martin Masinde, both Members of Staff of the Parliamentary Service Commission.
The MPs started their tour by paying a Courtesy Call on Amb. Joseph Magutt at the Chancery on 23rd April 2018. The MPs will bench mark with both houses of the German Parliament i.e. Bundestag and Bundesrat as well as meet with officials of the Ministry of Finance.

The International Tourism Bourse (ITB) is the world's leading travel trade Show and the world's marketplace and trendsetter of the global travel industry. This annual trade Show takes place in Berlin and is attended by tour operators, travel agencies, advertising firms, media companies, airlines, hotels and government tourism promotion agencies from around the world.
The 52nd Edition of ITB took place from 7th to 11th March 2018 at the Messe Berlin Exhibition Centre. Mrs. Fatuma Hirsi Mohamed, Principal Secretary for Tourism led a delegation of tour operators and hoteliers from Kenya. Other members of the delegation included: Mr. Jimi Kariuki, Chairman, Kenya Tourist Board (KTB), Dr. Betty Radier, CEO/KTB, five (5) Members of the National Assembly, Chairman and two (2) Board Members of the Tourism Regulatory Authority, Chairman and CEO of the Tourism Fund as well as the CEO of Kenya Utalii College.
KENYA PARTICIPATES AT THE FRUIT LOGISTICA 2018
Fruit Logistica is a fresh produce Trade Show that is held every February in Berlin. The Show focuses on trade, storage, packaging, distribution and marketing of fresh produce.
This year's Show took place from 7th to 9th February 2018 at Messe Berlin whereby, nineteen (19) Kenyan horticultural companies participated. The Kenyan delegation was led by Mr. Zakayo Magara, Director, Horticultural Crops Directorate of the Agriculture Fisheries and Food Authority (AFFA). The companies show cased products such as mangoes, avocado and a variety of vegetables.

The Federal Republic of Germany supports the voluntary return of foreigners obliged to leave Germany through the REAG/GARP and StarthilfePlus programmes.
Those who can receive this assistance include, asylum seekers, persons with a negative asylum decision, persons with a residence permit (e.g. recognised refugees), victims of forced prostitution or human trafficking. There is however no legal entitlement to voluntary return assistance.

HIS EXCELLENCY HON. UHURU KENYATTA, C.G.H., PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF KENYA AND COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF OF KENYA DEFENCE FORCES SWORN INTO OFFICE
His Excellency Hon. Uhuru Kenyatta, C.G.H., President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-In-Chief of Kenya Defence Forces was sworn into office for a Second and final five year term on 28th November 2017 at the Safaricom Stadium, Kasarani in Nairobi.
During the same occassion, His Excellency Hon. William Samoei Ruto was sworn into office as the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya. His Excellency Hon. Uhuru Kenyatta, C.G.H. was reelected following the repeat Presidential Elections held on 26th October 2017, having garnered 7,483,895 votes translating into 98.2% of the total valid votes cast.
KENYA HOLDS A PEACEFUL, TRANSPARENT AND DEMOCRATIC GENERAL ELECTION
August 2017: On Tuesday 8th August 2017, Kenyans went to the polls to elect the leaders of their choice to govern them for next 5 - year term. There were six elections in one: Presidential, Gubernatorial, Senatorial, National Assembly (MP), County Woman Representative and Member of County Assembly (MCA).
His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta decisively won the Presidential contest for a second term after attaining 8,214,779 (54.27%) votes out of 15,164,650 valid votes. His closest challenger, the former Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga got 6,814,850 (44.94%) votes.
The elections were held in a free, fair, transparent and peaceful environment.
Following the successful conclusion of this election, the Constitution mandates that the President -elect shall in public be sworn in before the Chief Justice or, in the absence, the Deputy Chief Justice.

A KENYAN STAND SELLING FOOD AT THE KENAKO AFRICAN FESTIVAL, ALEXANDERPLATZ, BERLIN
Berlin, June 2017: A Kenyan Lindah Ohisi, proprietor of Merab Catering Services joined other African entrepreneurs to set up their stands at this year's KENAKO African Festival usually held at Alexanderplatz market square.
KENAKO festival which is held annually and currently in its 6th edition, ended last Sunday, 18 June after running for two weeks.
The event is a major platform for showcasing Africa's rich and diverse culture and revelers are treated to African music, theater and culinary delights. Handmade art, clothing and cosmetics are also sold at the festival.
KENYA SET TO HOST THE PILOT AFRICA ACADEMY FOR TAX AND FINANCIAL CRIME INVESTIGATIONS
Berlin, June 2017: Kenya, OECD, Germany and Italy signed a Declaration of Intent to launch a Pilot Africa Academy Programme for Tax and Financial Crime Investigation during the just concluded G20 Africa Partnership Conference held on 12-13 June 2017 in Berlin.
The Academy's overall objective will be to strengthen the capacity of tax and financial crime investigators in tackling illicit financial flows on the continent.
Commissioner Gathi Mburu from Kenya Revenue Authority and H.E. Amb. Joseph Magutt were among the senior Kenya government representatives present.
DR. STEFAN MAIR OF BDI HOLDS A MEETING WITH AMB. JOSEPH MAGUTT
Berlin, June, 2017: Dr. Stefan Mair, CEO of Federation of German Industries (BDI) held a meeting with H.E. Amb. Joseph Magutt on 15 June 2017 to brief the latter on the on-going projects between BDI and East African Business Council.
BDI which is an umbrella association for German industries focus majorly on manufacturing sector and currently it is spearheading a business model of identifying and merging Kenyan SMEs with German counterparts as strategy for developing capacity and financing of the former.
Dr. Stefan also informed that the 2017 BDI - East African Business & Entrepreneurship Conference will be held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania between 16 - 19 October.

Berlin, June 2017: Eric Wainaina and his Best Band in Africa staged an electrifying performance at the German Foreign Office grounds on 12 June, 2017. The summer event organized by the Foreign Office dubbed, ' Welcome Africa - Koln Meets Kenia' where the renown Kenyan artist was invited by the Federal Minister Sigmar Gabriel.
Mr. Wainaina was joined on stage by another great German Musician Wolfgang Niedecken - a founder of rock group BAP and did a cover of 'Redemption Song' by Bob Marley.
Former German Ambassador to Kenya Walter Lindner also performed alongside Wainaina in singing the latter's signature song, ' Mkenya Daima.'

THE EMBASSY AND KENYANS IN GERMANY MEET IN FRANKFURT
Berlin, June 2017: Kenyan Diaspora in Germany held a successful forum on 3 June 2017. The forum was organized by the Embassy as part of its Diaspora outreach programme and this year's theme was "Forging Partnership with Kenya Diaspora".
The key note address was by H.E. Amb. Joseph Magutt who briefed the Diaspora on developments in Kenya and encouraged them to seize investment opportunities in the country.
Areas of interest to Diaspora such as integration, entrepreneurship, student affairs and consular issues were presented at the forum by different speakers.
The event which was punctuated by different musical groups and fashion shows saw many Kenyans who turned up to interact and learn from the above topics and during the question and answer session.
KENYA MAKES MILESTONE AS IT LAUNCHES SGR TRAIN SERVICES
May 2017: H.E. President Uhuru Kenyatta today (i.e. 31 May 2017) flagged off the inaugural SGR passenger train from Mombasa Terminus to Nairobi. This is a key milestone in the country's railway history because not only being a game changer in the transportation sector, it also replace the meter gauge railway that was built more than a century ago during colonialism.
The Passenger service launch came a day after a similar launch of SGR cargo service that is expected to radically reduce the freight charges between the two cities.
Operationalization of these two services will boost commerce, tourism and accelerate industrialization pace in the country.
KENYAN CHURCH STAGED ELECTRIFYING PERFORMANCE AT AN EVENT MARKING 500TH ANNIVERSARY OF CHURCH REFORMATION IN BERLIN
Berlin, May 2017: A Kenyan Choir from Mamlaka Hill Chapel was in Germany and staged electrifying performance at a concert event to mark 500th Anniversary of Church Reformation. The four - day event was from 24-28 May and held in Berlin.

KENYA'S MARY KEITANY SETS NEW WORLD RECORD AT THE 2017 LONDON MARATHON, AS OTHER KENYAN ATHLETES SWEEP TITLES AT THE BOSTON AND THE PARIS RACES
Berlin, April 2017: Kenya's Mary Keitany sets a new world record of 2:17:01 to win the 2017 London women marathon. Her victory smashed the 14- year record of 2:17:42 that was held by Paula Radcliffe since 2003. Kenyan runners dominated the top ten slots where Helah Kiprop, Vivian Cheruiyot and Florence Kiplagat clinched fourth, seventh and nineth positions respectively.
In male category, another Kenyan Daniel Wanjiru won the race in 2:05:49. His teammates Bedan karoki took Silver and two times world marathon champion Abel Kirui was fourth. The world record in men marathon stand at 2:02:57 and was set in Berlin by another Kenyan Dennis Kimetto in 2014.
Kenyan athletes also swept titles at the Boston Marathon race which was held on 17 April 2017 where Geoffrey Kirui and Edna Kiplagat won both the male and women races.
At Paris Marathon held on 9 April 2017, it was a family affair when Kenya's Paul Lonyangata won the men race and his wife Purity Rionoripo took victory in women race.

KENYANS DOMINATE THE 2017 BERLIN HALF MARATHON, AS THE MEN SWEEP THE PODIUM
Berlin, April 2017: Gilbert Masai led his teammates to a clean sweep of the podium as he won the Men's 2017 Berlin Half Marathon held yesterday Sunday 2 April 2017 under 59:57. Vincent Kipchumba and Reuben Limaa took silver and bronze with 60:43 and 61:43 respectively.
In women category, Kenya's Joan Melly won the race with 68:45 followed closely by her teammate Edith Chelimo with 68:57.
The race which is in its 37th edition, attracted 7 Kenyan elite athletes and 4 pacers.
The Embassy and Kenya Diaspora community in Germany convey warm congratulations and appreciations to the team for their sterling performance and for putting Kenya on world map again as home of world champions.

GERMAN MP, HON. FRANK HEINRICH AND DELEGATION FROM CHEMNITZ VISIT THE EMBASSY
Berlin, March 2017: Hon. Frank Heinrich - Member of German Bundestag led a trade delegation from his constituency of Chemnitz to visit the Embassy on 27 March 2017.
The delegation held fruitful discussions with Amb. Joseph Magutt on ongoing and potential areas of cooperation between Kenya and Germany.
It was noted that co-operation is already ongoing in the education sector -vocational training, youth empowerment and capacity development in the mining sector.
The delegation was informed that potential areas of cooperation exist in energy sector, ICT as well as in infrastructure development.
The two parties agreed that the aforementioned potential areas for co-operation will be exploited for the benefit of the two countries.

Berlin, March 2017: This year's Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue was successfully held between 20 - 21 March 2017 at the Federal Foreign Office. Amb. Joseph Magutt represented the Embassy at the event.
Among the Conference's keynote speakers included, but not limited to German Federal Ministers Brigitte Zypries and Sigmar Gabriel, and Prof. Betrand Piccard - Pilot and Chairman of Solar Impulse Foundation and Initiator of the World Alliance for Efficient Solutions.
Prof. Piccard is famous for flying the first manned solar powered plane in 2016 for 42,438 KMs in 558 hours, 7 minutes to circumnavigate the globe.

Face of Kenya Project was founded in 2012 to advance cultural diplomacy through social -economic activities that aim to empower the Kenyan youths in the Diaspora, foster cohesion and branding of Kenyan products abroad.
It was started in the UK and currently it has footprints across several European countries.
KENYA STAND WON A TROPHY DURING THE 2017 FRUIT LOGISTICA EXHIBITION HELD AT MESSE BERLIN
Berlin, February 2017:Kenya Stand won the "Health Wonder Award 2017" for their display of healthy, nutrition-rich products at the just concluded Fruit Logistica Trade Fair.
More Kenyan fresh produce companies took part in this year's Fair which ran from 8 - 10 February compared to 2016 event. A total of 27 Companies showcased their products under the umbrella of Horticultural Crop Directorate (HCD). While other Kenyan companies participated under different trading consortium.
Fruit Logistica Fair is key platform to all key players in the horticultural sector across the globe to meet, discuss and learn the market trends in the industry. Europe as a key export market for Kenya's fresh produce, the Fair gives opportunity to the exhibitors to scout for more market.

KENYA AND GERMANY SIGNED TWO DECLARATIONS DURING THE 2ND GABS HELD IN NAIROBI 8 - 10 FEBRUARY 2017
February 2017: Nairobi successfully hosted the 2nd German-African Business Summit (GABS) from 8 - 10 February 2017. The first Summit was held in Berlin in 2015.
GABS provide a perfect platform to interface among the decision-makers from the political, executive arm of the government and the business community both from Germany and Africa.
Over 460 participants attended the Summit. Germany was represented by high level delegation comprising of Federal Ministers , Parliamentary Members and State Secretaries and business executives.
The Summit was officially opened on 9 February by CS for Foreign Affairs Amb. Amina Mohamed who represented H.E. the President.
The following two declarations between Kenya and Germany were signed on the Summit sidelines:
1. A Joint Declaration of Intent on the Establishment of the Eastern Africa - German University of Applied Sciences;
2. A Declaration of Intent aimed at Supporting Vocational and Technical Training;
3. In addition, an MOU was also signed between KEPSA and Afrika Verein that will foster bilateral trade and investment between the two countries.
GABS was organized by the Sub Saharan Africa Initiative for German Business (SAFRI), the Network of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Sub Saharan Africa (AHK), KEPSA and the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Cooperatives.

KENYAN ARTISAN EXHIBITS HER WORKS AT THE EUROPA CENTRE CHRISTMAS MARKET
December 2016: A Kenyan designer and resident of Berlin, Ms. Wambui S. Mwangi is exhibiting her products at the Europa Centre Christmas Market. Wood carvings, calabash candleholders, handmade leather handbags and gloves are among wares being showcased and sold.
Christmas market is traditionally associated with German culture to celebrate Christmas during the four weeks of advent and generally held in the town squares adjacent to pedestrian areas and other significant centres like churches.
During the period, open-air stalls are erected where food, drinks especially mulled wine and seasonal items are sold. Sometimes there are traditional Christmas carols and dancing.

National Assembly's Public Accounts Committee Working Visit in Germany, December 2016
December 2016: The Kenya National Assembly Public Accounts Committee led by its Vice Chairman Hon. Jackson Rop is in Germany for a working visit. The delegation of 4 Committee members, Clerk and two technical advisors from the National Treasury and Office of the Auditor General arrived on Monday, 12 December 2016.
Apart from paying a courtesy call to the Embassy, the delegation held fruitful discussions with the Bundestag's counterpart Committee headed by its Chair Hon. Bettina Hagedorn.
The delegation also will hold another meeting with the President of the Federal Audit Court in Bonn.

Kenya Particpates at DER Touristik Expo held at Arena Berlin 10 - 13 November 2016
Berlin: Four Kenyan travel agencies took part at DER Touristik Expo that was held in Berlin between 10 - 13 November 2016. The Expo brings together the top selling agencies that are selected from all destinations globally.
Southern Cross Safaris, Leopard Beach Resort & Spa, Boabab Beach Resort & Spa and Swahili Beach Resort represented the country. In addition, two KTB representatives, the Embassy and MDR were part of the Kenya team.
This year's edition was attended by over 1,500 top sales personnel in the hospitality industry.

November 2016: The 6-member Senate Standing Committee on National Security and Foreign Relations led by Sen. Fatuma Dullo Adan visited Germany between 6 - 11 November 2016 where they held successful bilateral engagements with various German institutions such as the Bundestag, the Bundesrat, the Federal Ministry of Interior and the Landtag of Brandenburg.

The National Assembly Committee on Privileges visited Germany from 17th to 22nd October, 2016. The Committee, led by their Vice-Chairman, Hon. Dr. James Murgor, held meetings with relevant Members of the German Bundestag and the State Assembly of Sachsen-Anhalt.
Other Members of the Committee included Hon. Peter Shehe, Hon. Bedzimba Rashid Juma, Hon. Dr. Susan Musyoka, Hon. Florence Mutua, and Hon. Kimani Ichung'wah. The Legal Counsel, Mr. Ronald Walala , and the Third Clerk Assistant, Mr. Moses Lemuna, also accompanied the Delegation.

MINING CABINET SECRETARY LEADS DELEGATION TO GERMANY

The Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Mining, Hon. Dan Kazungu, led a Kenyan delegation to the Federal Republic of Germany from 17th to 23rd October 2016. Members of the delegation included Prof. Hamadi Idd Boga, the Vice-Chancellor of Taita Taveta University, Mr. Charles Obiero, the Senior Assistant Director in the Ministry of Education, Science & Technology, Mr. Raymond Mutiso, the acting Director of Mining in the Ministry of Mining and Mr. Stephen Mwakesi, the Advisor to the Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Mining.
The Delegation held discussions with key German stakeholders in the Mining Sector. The visit was a learning experience in preparation for the launch of the Centre for Mining, Environmental Engineering and Resource Management at Taita Taveta University. The Centre has received support from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and will work in collaboration with the University of Applied Sciences in Dresden and Technical University Bergakademie of Freiburg.
The Cabinet Secretary for Mining and his delegation also paid a courtesy call on H.E. the Ambassador Joseph Magutt at the Embassy Chancery.

The First Counsellor at the Embassy, Ms. Betty Cherwon, represented the Ambassador at the Face of Kenya Germany leadership and Charity Pageant that was held in Frankfurt on 8th October, 2016.
The Pageant brings together the Diaspora through a purposeful venture that aims at promoting charitable projects while promoting Kenyan culture and giving the Kenyan youth in the Diaspora a platform to learn about, serve and promote Kenya. Miss Diana Warindah, a football coach in Berlin, was crowned the Face of Kenya Germany 2016.

The 43rd BMW Berlin Marathon went down yesterday, Sunday 25/09/2016 where the Ethiopian Kenenisa Bekele won the Men's 42 KMs race at his personal best record of 2:03:57, narrowly missing Denis Kimetto's 2014 record of 2:02:57. Kenya's Wilson Kipsang and Evans Chebet came in second and third position respectively. Overall, Team Kenya male category that comprised of 8 marathoners dominated the top 10 slots .
In the ladies race, the only Kenyan athlete Janet Ronoh came in 7th position. The Ethiopian team took a podium sweep.

NEGOTIATIONS ON KENYAN-GERMAN DEVELOPMENT COOPERATION

The Negotiations on Bilateral Development Cooperation between Kenya and Germany took place in Berlin on 14th and 15th September 2016 in an open and constructive atmosphere and culminated in the signing of the agreement on the last day of the negotiations. The German Government has undertaken to provide €260.35 million for projects and programmes in Kenya for the next two-year period (2017 through 2018) in the following areas: Agriculture & Rural Developmet; Health; Water & Sanitation;Promotion of Youth Employment and Vocational Training; Energy; and Good Governance.
Kenya's delegation was headed by Dr. Kamau Thugge, Principal Secretary in the National Treasury while Germany's delegation was headed by Dr. Ralf-Matthias Mohs, Director of the East African Division, Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
Kenya's Ambassador to Germany, H.E. Joseph Magutt, witnessed the signing of the agreement. In addition, Principal Secretaries Dr. Dinah J. . Mwinzi (State Department for Vocational and Technical Training), Mr. Patrick Nduati Mwangi (Water and Irrigation), Mr. Julius Korir (Industry, Trade & Cooperatives), and other senior Government officials also witnessed the signing of the agreement.

COTECA EXPO 2016

The Coffee, Tea, Cocoa (COTECA) Global Industry Expo is an annual trade fair that brings together the buyers and sellers of Coffee, Tea and Cocoa from all over the world. This year's Fair was the fourth COTECA and was held from 7th to 9th September, 2016, at the Congress Center, Hamburg.
The Kenya Cooperative Coffee Exporters (KCCE) Limited participated at the Fair and were represented by Ms. Lucy Murumba, the Chief Executive Officer of the organization and Ms. Phyllis Nganga, the Commercial Manager. Ms. Muthoni Schneidewind of Chania Coffee, based in Germany, also participated.
A Delegation of representatives from nine Kenyan Companies from the tea sector and five officials from Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Authority (AFFA) also attended the Fair. The team was led by the Interim Director General of AFFA, Mr. Alfred Busolo Tabu and included representatives from organizations such as the Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA), Tea Directorate in the Ministry of Agriculture, Kichabo Tea Factory, Afribridge Trade Exporters Limited, Chai Trading Company, Evergreen Tea Factory, East African Tea Trade Association, One Touch Limited, Sovereign Kenya Limited, Sireet Outgrower Empowerment & Producer Company and Nyayo Tea Zones Development Corporation. The team had sponsored by the Centre for the Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries (CBI) of Netherlands, which is a governmental organization, part of the Ministry of Economic Affairs in Netherlands.

On 30th August, 2016, the Chargé d' Affaires, Mr. Simon Muiruri, held a brief meeting with retired Prof. Johannes Michael Nebe and a group of former Kenyatta University students, who had attended the annual International Summer School at Trier University. The students were in Berlin from 29th August to 4th September with the Professor in order to familiarize themselves with the recent history of Germany since 1989. The meeting was also attended by Mr. Silvester Koech, First Secretary.

BMZ OPEN DAY 2016

The Kenya Embassy Berlin participated in the annual BMZ Open Day on Sunday, 28th August, 2016, at Stresemannstrasse, Berlin. As in the previous years, the Mission showcased Kenya's culture, trade, tourism and investment opportunities. The Embassy also disseminated information on the Kenya-Germany Development Cooperation. Kenya has enjoyed a close development cooperation with Germany since her independence in 1963.
The Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Mr. Thomas Silberhorn, officiated the event and later visited Kenya's stand. The State Secretary was received at the Stand by the Charge d' Affaires, Mr. Simon Muiruri. Other members of Staff at the Kenya Embassy Berlin were also present.

The National Assembly's Departmental Committee on Defence and Foreign Relations members were in Berlin as part of their routine fact-finding visit to Missions. The members of the delegation visited from 29th May to 2nd June, 2016 and were received at the Airport by H.E. Amb. Joseph Magutt. The delegation, headed by Hon. Col. (Rtd) Ali Dido Rasso (MP - Saku), comprised of six Members of Parliament and two Clerks of the Committee. Ambassador Eliphas Barine, Director for Liaison (Parliamentary & County Affairs) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, accompanied the delegation.

36th Berlin Half Marathon
The 36th Berlin Half Marathon will take place on Sunday, 3rd April, 2016, and Kenyan athletes are expected to participate in the race. The starting and finishing point will be located at Karl-Marx-Allee, near Otto-Braun-Strasse (between Grunerstr. and Schillingstr). The Diaspora Community is encouraged to come out to cheer the Kenyan participants.

National Defence College Delegation Visits Germany for International Study Tour Programme
April, 2015: a thirteen member delegation from the National Defence College (NDC) led by Major General Andrew K. Ikenye - Deputy Commandant of the College visited Germany from 10th - 16th April, 2016 as part of their International Study Tour Programme for the current class 18-2015/2016. The delegation comprised of 10 course participants; 7 from Kenya, 1 from Burundi, Tanzania and Botswana.
While in Germany, they held constructive deliberations with senior officials from the following federal ministries: Foreign Office, Defence, Interior, Economic Cooperation and Development. They also held discussions with East African Parliamentary Group headed by Hon. Anita Schafer. Other Federal institutions visited by the delegation include: Academy for Security Policy (i.e. NDC's counterpart) and Federal Armed Forces Command Staff College in Hamburg where Kenya had benefited from its training courses under the Germany Military Training Assistance programme.
The delegation also visited German Railways, Bayer Pharma Corporations to familiarize with security management and health policies in the transport and health and agricultural sectors respectively.
The NDC is a training facility for Kenya's senior military and civil service personnel and also trains other senior public officials from friendly countries. The current class has one German participant from the German Air force. The courses offered are specially designed to prepare the participants to effectively take higher responsibilities in their careers.
PRESIDENT KENYATTA IN GERMANY FOR OFFICIAL VISIT
April, 2016
H.E. President Uhuru Kenyatta arrived in Berlin, Germany, on Wednesday 6th April, 2016, for a three-day official visit. The Plane carrying the President and the First Lady Margaret Kenyatta landed at Tegel Airport shortly before 2pm. The President was received by Kenya's Ambassador to Germany, H.E. Joseph Magutt, as well as senior German Government officials.
Later on, the President met with German Chancellor Angela Merkel at the Chancellery and was accorded full military honours by the German Defence Forces. During the press briefing, President Kenyatta thanked his host for the warm welcome and emphasized the need for further cooperation between Kenya and Germany in areas such as trade, investment, security and education. On her part, the Chancellor stated that Kenya was a strategic partner and anchor of stability in the region. She also emphasized the need for stronger ties between the two countries.
While in Berlin, the President will explore ways of deepening the existing bilateral relations in key areas of trade, investment, tourism and education.
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE ITB BERLIN 2016

The Cabinet Secretary for Tourism, Hon. Najib Balala, led a delegation of 42 exhibitors from Kenya's hospitality industry and County Governments in showcasing Kenya's tourism products at this year's ITB exhibition in Berlin. Germany is among the major source market for tourists visiting Kenya.
Hon. Balala was accompanied by the Principal Secretary for Tourism, Mrs. Fatuma Hirsi Mohamed, and other Senior Ministry Officials. Counties participating in this year's ITB include Nairobi, Uasin Gishu, Kwale and Mombasa.
The Uasin Gishu Governor, Mr. Jackson Mandago, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Ambassador Magutt at the Kenya Embassy, on the sidelines of the Tourism Fair. The Governor was accompanied by his Executive Secretary for Trade and Tourism, Mr. Phillip Melly.
The County Governor is in Berlin to promote the North Rift Tourism circuit which is currently under-exploited. Some of the tourism potential in the County include reserve parks, sports tourism and investment in Hotels.

Kenyan Exporters Participate in Fruit Logistica 2016

Several fresh produce exporters from Kenya participated in the Fruit Logistica Exhibition in Berlin, Germany. The annual event took place from 3rd to 5th February, 2016. The Kenyan exporters showcased a wide range of fruit and vegetable products such as mangoes, avocadoes, passion fruits, snow peas, chillies, baby corn and fine beans. Some of the Kenyan companies that had participated in the event included Harir International, KEITT, Vert, Marja, Saipei, Tyrobel and Kenya Fresh.
More than 2,700 exhibitors and 65,000 visitors attend Fruit Logistica every year to realize their full business potential within the international fresh produce trade. Kenya Announces Massive Tourism Incentives for World Travellers

Speaking at the opening of Kenya's first luxury yatching Marina (English Point Marina) in Mombasa on 12th January, 2016, H.E. President Uhuru Kenyatta unveiled an unprecedented tourism incentive package to attract world travelers back to Kenya:
- Visa fees for children under 16 will be scrapped indefinitely from 1st February 2016
- VAT charges on National Park fees will be removed and KWS Park fees will be capped at 60 USD (down from 90 USD) for the 2016/17 financial year.
- The Ksh. 1.2 bn Charter Incentive Scheme continues until 30 June 2018. This waives landing fees at Mombasa and Malindi airports for all Charter Aircraft and provides a 30 USD rebate for all disembarking tourists.
The President also announced a number of Coast infrastructure improvements that will ease travel to and around the Kenyan Coast, saying, "We continue to invest heavily in our infrastructure in the knowledge that quality roads and services are critical to the socio-economic transformation that we all desire"
- Expansion of JKIA and Malindi airports to handle greater numbers of visitors.
- Construction of the Port-Reitz Mombasa Road and the Dongo-Kundu Bypass that will allow tourists to travel to the South Coast (Diani) without using the ferry.
- Kenya Ferry Service to buy and operate two new ferries for the Likoni Channel crossing.
The President further thanked the Governments of the United States, United Kingdom and France for lifting their advisories on the Coast saying, " International governments recognise that security here has vastly improved and there is much to be gained by partnering with Kenya and the East Africa region. We must not allow that momentum to be lost".

2015-2016 WORLD RUGBY SEVENS SERIES IN FRANCE
The 2015-2016 World Rugby Sevens Series, known as the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, will be held at the Jean Bouin Stadium in Paris, France, from 13th to 15th May, 2016. The Kenya Rugby Sevens Team are expected to take part in the tournament and we therefore encourage the Kenyan Diaspora to attend the tournament to cheer the team. RETREAT ON STRATEGIC PLANNING AND PERFORMANCE CONTRACTING
November 2015: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs conducted a one week retreat in Kenya for the Mission officers involved in Strategic Planning and Performance Contracting processes. The Kenya Embassy Berlin was represented by the First Counsellor, Ms. Betty Cherwon, and the First Secretary, Mr. Martin Wasike. During the retreat, officers will be trained on the new Performance Management System (PMS) aimed at enhancing efficiency in performance reporting at the Missions.

GERMAN ATHLETICS FEDERATION PRESIDENT PAYS A COURTESY CALL ON THE AMBASSADOR
October 2015: The President of the German Athletics Federation, Dr. Clemens Prokop, and the Director General, Mr. Frank Hensel, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Ambassador Joseph Magutt on 26th October, 2015. The First Secretary, Mr. Sylvester Koech, also attended the meeting.
The German Athletics Association (DLV) is the governing body for the sport of Athletics in Germany and is headquartered in Darmstadt, State of Hesse. Its equivalent in Kenya is the Athletics Kenya (AK).
The discussions centered on the various areas of possible collaboration between Kenya and Germany on athletics. These areas include an exchange programme for athletes, mutually beneficial research on athletics, cooperation in anti-doping and coaching opportunities for Kenyans.

On the sidelines of the Conference, Dr. Kassachoon held a bilateral meeting with senior officials from the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), whereby the Kenya-Germany partnership in the health sector was the topic of discussion. The PS also held consultative meetings with Siemens Healthcare and eHealth, whereby she encouraged the German companies to invest in the country's health sector and to participate proactively in the international tenders that the Ministry floats occasionally.
Kenya Shines at the 2015 Berlin Marathon
Berlin: Kenya National Anthem played twice at the 2015 Berlin Marathon 42nd Edition held yesterday, 28th September, 2015 when Eliud Kipchoge and Gladys Cherono clinched top honours in both men and women races respectively.
Kipchoge ran his personal best record of 2:04:01 while Cherono won the race in 2:19:25 an improvement from 2014's record of 2:20:23 by Tsegaye Tirfi of Ethiopia.
Another Kenyan, Eliud Kiptanui came in second in the Men's race and Emmanuel Mutai and Geofrey Mutai finished in position four (4) and five (5) respectively.
Team Kenya to the Marathon composed of 18 members; 6 competing athletes and 12 as pacers.

September 2015: The Ambassador designate of Germany to Kenya, Amb. Jutta Frasch, paid a courtesy call on Ambassador Joseph Magutt on 14th September, 2015. The two held a fruitful meeting as they deliberated on a wide array of issues between Kenya and Germany. They both lauded the bilateral relations that the two countries have long held and assured each other of consolidating the special ties, especially by concluding the pending bilateral agreements and expanding the scope of cooperation.
VISIT BY THE KENYA NATIONAL FARMERS FEDERATION
September 2015: Dairy farmers led by the Chair of the Kenya National Farmers Federation, Hon. Leonard Nduati and Hon. Peter Kamande Mwangi, visited the Embassy on 11th September, 2015. The farmers, who had been touring Germany for a week to learn from the country's successful dairy sector, were sponsored by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
The farmers informed that during their tour, they visited various farms, dairy processing plants, agricultural trade fairs and held meetings with key relevant state officials and Members of the Bundestag. They termed the trip as successful as they were able to share several experiences and established partnerships that would benefit Kenya's dairy farmers in the area of capacity development, high quality semen and upgrade of other dairy technologies.
On his part, the Ambassador noted that many Kenyan youths are increasingly embracing Agriculture as an alternative employment source. He appealed to farmers to adopt intensive agriculture and modern techniques in order to increase the yields.
Lauding the German Government for extending this opportunity to Kenyan farmers, the Ambassador called for more of such collaborations and exchange of visits to appraise with new agricultural practices. He implored the farmers to create website portals to facilitate exchange of ideas online on agribusiness as a strategy to harness from the synergies created from the visit. In conclusion, the Ambassador assured of the Mission's commitment to harness opportunities for the benefit of all Kenyans.
The Diaspora in Munich Celebrate Kenya's Culture
September 2015: Kenyans in Munich held a Cultural Day on Saturday 5th September, 2015. The event, which is in its second year, saw Kenyans sharing, networking, entertaining and showcasing our rich diversity in culture, cuisine and music. Speakers at the event included H.E. Amb. Joseph Magutt, Mr. Robert Roth from Austria, and Mr. Joachim Niehaus from Freiburg.
In his speech, Ambassador Joseph Magutt thanked the organizers for providing a social platform for Kenyans to interact thereby promoting unity and cohesiveness among the Kenyan Diaspora. He stated that the Diaspora was an important constituency that the Government was keen to tap on for National Development and Prosperity. He noted that the current Constitution mandated the Government to facilitate the Diaspora in exercising their voting rights as well as Dual citizenship. He urged Kenyans to be goodwill ambassadors in the host country and to exploit investment opportunities. Other speakers at the event encouraged Kenyans to engage in meaningful activities that will add value to their lives.
THE GIZ INFORMATION WORKSHOP ON RENEWABLE ENERGIES IN THE COMMERCIAL & INDUSTRIAL SECTOR IN KENYA
September 2015: The German Development Organization GIZ hosted a workshop on 2nd September, 2015, to sensitize German investors on the market opportunities in the energy sector in Kenya as well as the policies and the strategies of the Kenyan Government with regard to the sector.
H.E. Ambassador Joseph Magutt gave the opening remarks at the workshop whereby he gave an overview of the country's policies and strategies for the energy sector. The Ambassador was accompanied by the Commercial Attachè, Mrs. Jane Kole, and the Second Secretary, Mrs. Redempta Ndambuki.
BMZ OPEN DAY 2015
September 2015: The annual BMZ Open Day was held on Sunday, 30th August, 2015, in Berlin. The event, organized by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), was graced by the Parliamentary State Secretaries to the Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Mr. Hans-Joachim Fuchtel and Mr. Thomas Silberhorn.
The Kenya Embassy Berlin participated in the event, showcasing various tourist destinations, trade opportunities, as well as its rich cultural heritage.
NEWLY APPOINTED KONRAD ADENAUER FOUNDATION KENYA REPRESENTATIVE PAYS A COURTESY CALL
July 2015: Mr. Gregor Jaicke (left), the newly appointed Konrad Adenauer Kenya Representative, held a meeting with H.E. Amb. Joseph Magutt at the Berlin Chancery on 30th July, 2015.
Mr. Jaicke was recently appointed to head a four-year project on strengthening capacities for effective devolution in Kenya under the auspices of Konrad Adenauer Foundation Kenya Office.
During the meeting, the Representative outlined the core objectives of the new project that is co-funded by the European Union (EU) and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation & Development (BMZ). The project will cover 10 County Governments and targeted groups such as the Council of Governors, County Authorities, local journalists, among others. Local NGO's such as Catholic Justice and Peace Commission, Centre for Enhancing Democracy and Good Governance and the Mobilization Agency for Paralegal Communities in Africa will partner with the Foundation on this project.

The Meeting was an opportunity for the leadership to introduce themselves to the Ambassador and to brief him on the activities of the organization. The Ambassador thanked the organization for playing an intermediary role between African and German business communities. Various strategies were explored during the meeting with the view of expanding German investments in Kenya and the East African region.
Kenyan Coffee Tasting at the Barn Coffee Roasters in Berlin
June 2015: One of the leading Specialty Coffee Roasters in Germany, Barn Coffee Roasters, held a coffee tasting event on 28th June, 2015, at their premises in Berlin. The event showcased coffee from 13 different factories/cooperatives in Kenya, namely, Kamwangi, Karinga, Mugaya, Kii, Tegu-Yekangu, Kathakwa, Githiga, Rianjagi, Gondo, Karimikui, Kiamwangi, Chorongi and Kaiguri. SPEAKER OF THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY VISITS GERMANY
June 2015: The Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Justin Muturi, is visiting Germany at the invitation of the President of the State Parliament of Schleswig-Holstein, Mr. Klaus Schlie. The one week visit is part of an initial step towards securing a formal collaboration between the two legislatures.
The Speaker and his delegation were received at the Hamburg Airport on 20th June, 2015, by Kenya's Ambassador to Germany, H.E. Joseph Magutt, and the Chief of Protocol of the State Parliament of Schleswig-Holstein, Ms. Kristian Rieser.
The delegation that accompanied the Speaker to Germany include the following Members of Parliament: Hon. Jessica Mbalu, Hon. Wafula Wamunyinyi, and Hon. Muriuki Njagagua. PUBLIC PROCUREMENT OVERSIGHT AUTHORITY STUDY TOUR IN GERMANY & LUXEMBOURG
June 2015: Members of Kenya's Public Procurement Oversight Authority paid a courtesy call on H.E. Amb. Joseph Magutt at the Embassy Chancery on 23rd June, 2015. The delegation, led by Mr. Maurice Oduor Juma, Director General, Public Procurement Oversight Authority, will be in Germany and Luxembourg for a week-long study tour of best practices with regard to procurement regulations in the two countries.
The study tour of the Public Procurement Oversight Authority is within the framework of the project "Promotion of Good Governance to Strengthen Integrity and Accountability in Kenya" being implemented by the GIZ on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
DIASPORA VIEWS AND IEBC ONLINE MAPPING TOOL
June 2015: In February, 2015, the Government constituted a Task Force mandated to put the necessary framework in place to enable the Kenyan Diaspora to fully participate in future general elections and referenda. To ensure that the views of the Kenyan Diaspora are considered in the final report, the Task Force requests for suggestions from the Diaspora through written submissions which should be sent directly to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade through the email address: diaspora@mfa.go.ke. The suggestions are aimed at guiding policy and legislative changes that would eventually enable the Diaspora realize their Constitutional right. Further to this, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) would like to inform and encourage Kenyans to register with it through an online mapping tool http://www.iebc.or.ke/diaspora
MEETING WITH DAAD OFFICIALS IN BONN
June 2015: H.E. Amb. Joseph Magutt held a meeting with officials of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) on 3rd June, 2015, in Bonn, Germany. The officials were Dr. Cay Etzold, Head of Section, Scholarship Programmes Africa, Dr. Sebastian Fohrbeck, Director, Scholarships and Mr. Felix Wagenfeld, Senior Expert for Africa and Middle East. The Ambassador was accompanied by Mr. Sylvester Koech, Second Secretary.
Since 1973, when DAAD opened its offices in Nairobi, more than 2,400 Kenyan students have benefitted from postgraduate study and research opportunities through scholarships offered by the organization. Currently, 84 academic staff members from Kenyan universities are undertaking PhDs in various fields under a joint programme between DAAD and Kenya's National Council for Science, Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI).
The Ambassador and the DAAD officials discussed current areas of cooperation between DAAD and Kenyan institutions as well as possible areas of further cooperation. The Ambassador appreciated the work of the organization in giving Kenyans the opportunity to further their academic studies and research interests.
MEETING WITH BMZ OFFICIALS IN BONN
June 2015: H.E. Amb. Joseph Magutt held a meeting with officials of the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) on 3rd June, 2015, in Bonn, Germany. The officials were Dr. Ralf-Matthias Mohs, Director for East Africa and Dr. Dominik Kneer, the Desk Officer for Kenya. The Ambassador was accompanied by Mr. Sylvester Koech, Second Secretary.
In December 2013, Germany signed a development cooperation agreement with Kenya whereby Germany allocated upto €233.7 million for development activities in Kenya for the period 2014-2016. Development Cooperation with Kenya is focused on the following sectors: Agriculture, water and health. Other areas of cooperation include governance, energy and education.
The meeting discussed the current areas of development cooperation with Kenya as well as the emerging challenges facing the country and the East African region.The Ambassador appreciated the work of BMZ in Kenya and in the region.
MEETING WITH OFFICIALS OF THE SENIOR EXPERTEN SERVICES (SES)
June 2015: H.E. Amb. Joseph Magutt met with two officials of the Senior Experten Services (SES) organization on 3rd June, 2015, at their offices in Bonn, Germany. The officials were: Ms. Anja Tenambergen, Project Coordinator Africa and Ms. Bettina Hartmann, Director, Expert Department and Recruiting. The Ambassador was accompanied by Mr. Sylvester Koech, Second Secretary.
SES was created in 1983 and is the largest volunteer organization for retired professionals. The organization aims at ensuring that people can pass on their knowledge on voluntary basis after their retirement. SES receives requests from institutions in different countries looking for expert support in fields such as agriculture, automative engineering, textiles, and other diverse fields. Seven senior experts have been to Kenya this year and the organization has received requests from more organizations.
The Ambassador appreciated the work done by SES. He stated that Kenya, being a developing economy, requires expert support in all areas of the economy. He therefore hoped to work closely with the organization in bringing more senior experts to Kenya.

Kenya Coffee Firms Voted World's Best

Berlin, May 2015: Four Kenyan factories have been named among the world's best speciality coffee producers at a bi-annual sampling event featuring 49 top-end samples.
Gachatha Coffee Factory in Nyeri County clinched the first position and other three Kenyan factories dominated the top 10 category.
The Rainforest Alliance released the detailed scores at its bi-annual "cupping for quality" event that featured 49 coffee samples from Colombia, Ethiopia, India, Kenya and Rwanda. These were reviewed by a panel of expert cuppers hosted by Balzac Brothers at their SCAA-certified lab in Charleston, South Carolina, U.S.
The popularity of Kenyan coffee follows concerted efforts to increase acreage and research on new varieties.

April, 2015: The Principal Secretary for Commerce and Tourism Dr. Ibrahim M. Mohamed and Kenya Tourism Board Managing Director, Mr. Muriithi Ndegwa accompanied by H.E. Amb. Joseph Magutt paid a courtesy call to Lufthansa German Airlines' Head Quarters in Frankfurt/Main on 29th April, 2015. The discussions with the Airline's officials led by its Director for Network Planning Dr. Sebastian Hollmeier focused on proposals for flight partnership between Lufthansa and Kenya.

April 2015: The Principal Secretary (PS) of the State Department of Agriculture in the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Mrs. Sicily K. Kariuki, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Amb. Joseph Magutt on 22nd April, 2015, at the Embassy Chancery.
The Principal Secretary is among the keynote speakers in this year's Global Soil Week being held at the Scandic Hotel in Berlin from 16th to 23rd April, 2015. The members of the Kenya National Assembly Committee on Lands are also attending the Conference. The theme of this year's Conference ("soil. the substance of transformation") highlights the importance of soil management and land governance in the post-2015 development agenda and in the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. On the sidelines of the Conference, the PS held consultative meetings with the top leadership of the GIZ, a key development partner of Kenya, especially in working with County Governments to foster food security through drought resilience programmes.
Visit by Members of the Kenya National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI)
April 2015: A delegation from the National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI) are visiting Germany from 20th to 24th April, 2015. The delegation is on a study tour as part of a process to establish the National Physical Laboratory to enable researchers carry out cutting-edge research programmes and to supplement the existing academic institution-based laboratories. The group visited key institutes in Germany, such as, the Federal Institute for Material Testing and Checking and the National Meteorology Institute (PTB) based in Braunschweig.
KENYANS DOMINATE THE 35TH VATTENFALL BERLIN HALF MARATHON
March 2015: Kenyans dominated the 35th Vattenfall Berlin half Marathon held on 29th March, 2015, in Berlin. Cynthia Kosgei won the women's race with 70 minutes and 52 seconds, beating a fellow Kenyan, Elizabe Cherono, by only four seconds.
In the men's race, Kenya's David Kogei finished second with 59 minutes 46 seconds after a thrilling close tie with Birhanu Legese of Ethiopia who finished with 59 minutes 45 seconds.
The event saw 32,000 runners from more than 100 countries participate in the race. The members of staff of the Kenya Embassy Berlin were on the ground to cheer the Kenyans on.

THE 17TH BIENNIAL AMBASSADOR'S CONFERENCE IN KWALE
March 2015: Ambassador Joseph Magutt is attending the 17th Biennial Ambassador's and High Commissioner's Conference at the Leisure Lodge Golf Club and Resort in Kwale County. The theme of the Conference is "Building bridges for effective Diplomatic Engagements". H.E. President Uhuru Kenyatta officially opened the Conference on Tuesday, 24th March, 2015. The President urged the envoys to market Kenya as a safe destination for tourists and as a viable manufacturing, innovation and trade hub for investors. He stated that the government has done a lot to secure the country. Besides trade and tourism, the President told the diplomats to market Kenya as a supporter of regional integration, arguing that stronger connections with other countries will make it easier for Kenya to achieve Vision 2030.
Accompanying the President was the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Amb. Amina Mohamed,who proposed to the President that Kenya introduces a special scheme to dedicate funds for the purchase of Government owned properties abroad.
Other Cabinet Secretaries in attendance during the opening ceremony included Najib Balala (Mining), Joseph Nkaissery (Interior) and Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya.

THE EAC JOINT EVENT AT ITB 2015
March 2015: The EAC joint event was held on Friday, 6th March, 2015, at the stand of the United Republic of Tanzania, during the ITB exhibition in Messe, Berlin. The aim of the annual event is to promote the diverse tourism potential of the East African Region. The East African Community (EAC) is the regional intergovernmental organization of the Republics of Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda.
During the event, guests were treated to exciting traditional songs and dances from the region. Kenya was represented by dancers from the Bomas of Kenya as well as the musician Emmy Kosgei, known for her hit song Taunet nelel. The regional statement at the event was delivered by the Chairperson of the Sectoral Council on Tourism and Wildlife Management, Hon. Lazaro Nyalandu, MP and Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism of the United Republic of Tanzania.
Kenya won the 2nd best Exhibitor Award 2015 position among African Exhibitors. It was the 6th best stand overall at the 2015 ITB event.

Berlin ITB is world renowned travel exhibition that provides international platform to stakeholders in the hospitality sector to showcase their latest travel trends and related products. Therefore, ITB remains an important international forum for Kenya's tourism sector.
AMBASSADOR MAGUTT PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO PRESIDENT GAUCK
March 2015: Ambassador Joseph Magutt presented his letter of credence as Ambassador of the Republic of Kenya to President Joachim Gauck in a solemn and defining ceremony at the Federal President's official residence (Schloss Bellevue) on 4th March, 2015.
In accordance with the protocol, Ambassador Magutt and his party of five Embassy officers were escorted to the residence of the Federal President in official cars, with police escort. In the courtyard of the residence, the Ambassador was welcomed by high-level officials from the Chief of Protocol's office (Federal Foreign Office) and the representative of the Directorate-General for Foreign Affairs in the office of the Federal President. The Ambassador was then escorted to the steps leading to the entrance of Schloss Bellevue where a guard of honour from the Bundeswehr paid him military honours. From there, the Ambassador signed the President's guest book before eventually presenting his letter of credence to the President of the Federal Republic of Germany.

March 2015: The Deputy Secretary General of the East African Community, Mr. Charles Njoroge (right) paid a courtesy call on Kenya's Ambassador to Germany, H.E. Joseph Magutt (left) on 3rd March, 2015. The Deputy Secretary General was the leader of a delegation that was visiting Germany under the auspices of the Federal Foreign Office to discuss aspects of the integration process of the East African Community.
HIGH-LEVEL EAC DELEGATION VISITS GERMANY
February 2015: A high-level delegation from the East African Community (EAC) is in Germany under the auspices of the Foreign Office to discuss dimensions of the EAC's regional integration. The delegation is led by Mr. Charles Njoroge, the Deputy Secretary General of the EAC. Other members of the delegation include Mr. John Konchellah, the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of East African Community, Commerce and Tourism (representing Kenya); Ms. Edith Mwanje, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of East African Community Affairs of the Republic of Uganda; Ms. Joyce Mapunjo, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of East African Community Affairs of the Republic of Tanzania; Mr. Jean Rigi, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of East African Community Affairs of the Republic of Burundi; and Mr. Abdullah Mwinyi, a member of the East African Legislative Assembly.
During the four-day visit, the delegation will hold consultative meetings with senior officials in the Office of the Federal President, the Federal Foreign Office, the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the European Central Bank, Members of the German Bundestag and Bundesrat, German think-tanks and German-African Business Association.
VISIT TO KENYA BY THE FOREIGN MINISTER OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY
February 2015: The German Foreign Minister, Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, visited Kenya from 21st to 22nd February, 2015, accompanied by a high-ranking business delegation from Germany. The Foreign Minister held bilateral talks with the President of Kenya, H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta, and also with Amb. Dr. Amina Mohamed, the Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, among other engagements.
During the courtesy call at State House Nairobi, the President assured the German Foreign Minister that the East African region provided new areas of potential interest in trade and investment. The President also highlighted the good cooperation between Kenya and Germany and called for further enhancement of the ties for the mutual benefit of the two countries. The Foreign Minister highlighted Kenya's important role in East Africa and praised Kenya as an anchor of stability in the region.
The Foreign Minister and the German business delegation held meetings with the Kenyan business community in order to build lasting partnerships. The German business delegation consisted of senior representatives of German companies and institutions, such as, Siemens, Strabag, Goethe, among others. During meetings with Kenyan organizations such as KenInvest, KEPSA and the Kenya Private Sector, the participants discussed issues of industrial development, challenges of the German Private Sector in Kenya and Economic Integration, among other topics. The German companies expressed interest in investing in Kenya.
BREAKFAST MEETING IN HONOUR OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF SOMALIA
February 2015: H.E. Amb. Joseph Magutt attended a breakfast meeting in honour of H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, on 14th February, 2015, at a hotel in Berlin. The meeting was also attended by other Ambassadors based in Berlin from the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) member states. Various issues were discussed at the meeting, including the on-going peace process in the Republic of South Sudan.
MEETING KENYAN CONGREGATION AT GOD'S LOVE INTERNATIONAL MINISTRY
February 2015: On Sunday, 15th February, 2015, Mr. Simon Muiruri, the Minister-Counsellor, and Mr. Oliver Konje, the Commercial Attachè, had the opportunity to meet with a Kenyan congregation at the God's Love International Ministry in Berlin.
The Minister-Counsellor encouraged the Kenyans to continue supporting community development and investment in Kenya. He told the leaders of the church that the Government recognized the contribution made by the Diaspora to Kenya's growth and development and that there was a deliberate attempt by the Embassy in Berlin to reach out to all the Diaspora in Germany.
MUNICH SECURITY CONFERENCE: PHOTOS
February 2015: The Munich Security Conference was held from 6th to 8th February, 2015, in Munich, Germany. Kenya's delegation was led by the Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Amb. Dr. Amina Mohamed. The Cabinet Secretary was received at the Munich Airport by Kenya's Ambassador to Germany, H.E. Amb. Dr. Joseph Magutt.
CABINET SECRETARY MEETS KENYAN DIASPORA IN MUNICH
February 2015: On Saturday, 7th February, 2015, the Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Amb. Dr. Amina Mohamed and H.E. Amb. Dr. Joseph Magutt, held a meeting with the Kenyan Diaspora in Munich. The Cabinet Secretary highlighted the important role played by the Diaspora in the growth of the Kenyan Economy, giving an example of the remittances sent by Kenyans abroad (which stood at Ksh. 113 Billion according to the Central Bank of Kenya statistics for 2013). The Cabinet Secretary also highlighted the strategies in the recently launched Diaspora Policy, including enabling Kenyans in Diaspora to vote in general elections, reducing the cost of remitting money, and having a database of Kenyans abroad (through the Ministry's web portal). On his part, Kenya's Ambassador to Germany stated that he operated an open door policy at the Mission and that he would facilitate the Diaspora to achieve their maximum potential within the Mission's Service Charter.
FRUIT LOGISTICA 2015
February 2015: H.E. Amb. Dr. Joseph Magutt met Kenyan exporters at Messe Berlin during the Fruit Logistica Exhibition 2015. The Ambassador encouraged the exporters to continue exploring the European market as much as they could and to also strictly observe the various standards governing their export businesses. There were thirteen Kenyan companies represented at the Kenyan stand. Twelve other Kenyan companies came to scout for business opportunities at the exhibition.
GERMAN-AFRICA INFRASTRUCTURE FORUM
December, 2014: The 2nd German-Africa Infrastructure Forum was held in Munich, Germany, from 3rd to 4th December, 2014. The Kenya Embassy Berlin was represented by the Commercial Attaché, Mr. Oliver Konje.
During the event, the Commercial Attachè met with several participants (pictured above). Mr. Skander Nagashi is based in Germany and a key trade fair organizer. He organizes trade fairs in Kenya, which normally attracts German exhibitors and other participants. An example is the Building East Africa's Future Trade Fair to be held at the KICC in Nairobi from 26th to 28th February, 2015.
Guaff Consultants are working with the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure in Kenya on Rail and Road Based Mass rapid Transport System in Nairobi.
The bicycle displayed above is designed purposely for students who are experiencing a challenge on the distance they cover while going to school every day. The priority is given to students who are performing well in school and whose performance could be enhanced by making it easier for them to go to school. The beneficiaries will be selected jointly by education stakeholders from the area/region identified. World Bicycle Relief Deutschland organization has identified Kenya as one of the countries they plan to operate in.
SPANDAU CHRISTMAS MARKET
November 2014: The Staff of the Kenya Embassy Berlin attended the official opening ceremony of the Spandau Christmas Market on 26th November, 2014, in Berlin. The Christmas Market is a street market associated with the celebration of Christmas during the four weeks of Advent. The history of Christmas Markets goes back to the Late Middle Ages in the German-speaking parts of Europe and in many parts of the former Holy Roman Empire that includes many eastern regions of France and Switzerland. Generally held in the town square and adjacent pedestrian zones, the market sells food, drinks and seasonal items from open-air stalls, accompanied by traditional singing and dancing.
The organizers of the Spandau Christmas Market expressed their interest in working with the Kenyan Embassy in the future and if possible, having Kenyan artists perform on particular days. During this year's event, the Kenyans who participated sold Kenyan foods and handicrafts, thereby showcasing Kenya's rich cultural heritage.
THE 2014 BAZAAR BERLIN EXHIBITION
November 2014: The Bazaar Berlin exhibition, formerly known as Import Shop Exhibition, was held from 12th to 16th November, 2014, at Messe Berlin.
The exhibition attracts many importers, exporters and manufacturers from Germany and around the world. Several Kenyan exhibitors were present displaying various items, such as, leather goods, household textiles, arts and crafts, ethnic jewellery, basketry, ceramics, and glassware.
The Chargè d'affaires, Mr. Simon Muiruri, and Mr. Oliver Konje, the Commercial Attachè, attended the event to meet the Kenyan SMEs' exporters in order to encourage them and to get to know the issues affecting them.
YOUNG KENYAN SCIENTIST HONOURED IN BERLIN
November 2014: A young Kenyan scientist, Kennedy Mbeva, was awarded with the Green Talents 2014 Award by the German Federal Minister for Education and Research, Prof. Johanna Wanka, on 7th November, 2014, at the new Federal Ministry of Education and Research Building in Berlin.The prestigious title was also awarded to several other young scientists from around the world during the ceremony.
The Kenyan, currently undertaking a Master's course in Beijing, China, was awarded for his enthusiastic activism and his clear vision of the practical applicability of his research to improving sustainable development in the future.
A high-ranking jury of experts selects the winners annually. This year, a record number of 800 scientists from more than 100 countries submitted their work to the jury. The winners of the award visited top locations for sustainability research in Germany where they gained a deeper insight into the country's innovation system and exchanged ideas with the country's leading experts in individual meetings.
The Second Secretary at the Kenya Embassy Berlin, Mr. Silvester Koech, attended the prize-giving ceremony.
