Hon. Njoki Ndung’u, M.P. Attends Gifhorn International Women’s Festival
On Saturday, 14th April, 2007, Hon. Njoki Ndung’u, Nominated Member of Parliament was the Guest of Honour at the annual celebrations to mark the International Women’s Festival in Gifhorn City of Lower Saxony State, Germany.
The ceremony was held at the Schloss castle. The Member of Parliament was accompanied by H.E. Mr. H. Mutuma Kathurima, the Ambassador of the Republic of Kenya in the Federal Republic of Germany. The purpose of the ceremony was to celebrate the diversity of Nations and also to raise funds for a women’s Group in the slum areas of Nakuru District in Kenya known as “Assistance for surviving in Nakuru (Kenya) registered association”, a project initiated by Mrs. Elizabeth Schweigler and Ms. Karin Burst.
During her speech the Member of Parliament praised the role of women in Development and noted the importance of unity to remove conflict and differences amongst humanity. The Ambassador highlighted the beauty of Kenya and appealed to Germans to visit the country.
The Gifhorn International Women Group has more than one hundred (100) members who hail from more than thirty nationalities.
The Member of Parliament was enthusiastically received by many Kenyan families in the City Hall. During the meeting Hon. Ndung’u briefed them on the new constitution making process in Kenya. She appealed to Kenyans to register with the Embassy in order to ease accessibility and exchange of information with the Embassy and facilitate contacts in case of distress. The Ambassador outlined various reforms the Embassy is undertaking in Administrative and Consular services and assured the Kenyans present of his commitment and that of his staff to render efficient services.
On arrival in Gifhorn the Member of Parliament was received by Mr. Manfred Birth, the Mayor of the City and Mrs. Sylvia Rohrbeck the Chairlady of the Gifhorn Women’s Group.
